Piano Lessons for Children
Parents and experts agree that piano lessons for children are extremely beneficial. Experience shows that the best time for children to start taking lessons is between the ages of 6 and 10. A lot of piano teachers believe that the most favorable time for a child to start piano lessons is at the start of the second or third grade. It is when children are this age that they have the most potential to succeed because they are mature enough and have adequate language and math skills.
In no way should these guidelines be construed to mean that children are incapable of doing well if they start their lessons before or after the this optimum age. There are children, teenagers and adults who start taking lessons way earlier or well after this age range.
At a minimum, children should not start taking piano lessons until they are at least five or six years old. Waiting until they turn 12, however, can be a disadvantage since the brain is more hard-wired at this stage and making progress becomes slower. This situation is made even worse by the onset of puberty. Additionally when a child starts an early path to music, it helps him or her develop and grow in discipline and focus.
Research has proven time and again that there are links between playing music and some of the deepest mechanisms of the brain. There is a powerful association between music teaching, including music lessons and musical performance, and the development of learning skills in math, science and public speaking. There is also a demonstrable improvement in a child’s attitude, patience and coordination.
A lot of evidence provides that a great number of children are born with musical abilities and can gain positively from taking up piano lessons. The timing of the start of piano lessons for a child, however, and the choice of a suitable teacher for the child are very important factors in the ling term success of those piano lessons.
Parents can add to their child's feelings of satisfaction and contentment about his development by supporting them at every stage in their musical development and milestone. Giving approval for the child’s initiative and diligence in practicing, attending recitals, and even considering taking beginner piano lessons together with them can all help foster a positive and lifelong love of music. Family participation in piano lessons can go a long way in motivating and inspiring a child to continue playing.
Piano lessons aren't just a pleasant hobby or a baby sitting service where kids are dropped off for a half-hour while the parent runs errands. Piano lessons for children can have a major positive influence on a child's learning process, achievements in school and in their future success in their college years and in the years beyond. Lessons, however, must be taken seriously and given the attention and priority that communicates to the child that the lessons are important. Piano lessons have the power to change and transform people.
A lot of young children who used to lack motivation, coordination and self-assurance have transformed into more articulate, poised and goal-oriented persons as a result of taking piano lessons
